DUI Checkpoint Controversy in San Rafael, CA
Interesting news story on DUI roadblocks in San Rafael. Residents of a largely immigrant community feel unfairly targeted by the police.
These drunk driving checkpoints have been declared legal and Constitutional by the California Supreme court if they follow clear and unbiased rules about who is stopped, and for how long. However, there is no clear policy or legal standing on where and how these sobriety checkpoints are placed.
And, of course, there is also little compelling evidence that DUI checkpoints have any impact at all on public safety.
