Super Bowl Weekend Notoriously Brings More CA DUI’s

January 30, 2009

In California and across the country, Super Bowl weekend will bring parties and get-togethers. People will gather at homes and at bars and in most circumstances, there will be drinking going on. Pay attention to most of the Super Bowl commercials and you will see that beer is quite popular with fans across the country!

The Salinas Police Department issued some statistics as well as tips in this article from The Californian. Because the incidences of driving while impaired increase so much over Super Bowl weekend, police are beefing up the ranks and getting prepared for a busy time.

In an effort to keep the roads safe they will be setting up checkpoints and increasing staffing to stop drunk drivers. Increasing patrols to combat drunk driving over the weekend will hopefully prevent DWI related accidents and deaths.

If you are celebrating the big game with friends and drinks are involved, be cautious when deciding to get behind the wheel. Being overly careful will always end in better results than being careless. Check out some of these tips courtesy of the Salinas Police Department:

  1. Designate a sober driver in advance
  2. Avoid drinking too much, pace yourself
  3. Don’t let friends drive drunk

They may be obvious, but when you know you plan to drink, it makes sense to be prepared.

Facing a DUI charge is nothing simple. These charges will land people in a lot of trouble. Large fines and even jail time await those people caught drinking and driving over Super Bowl, or any weekend. Ask anyone who has faced a DUI charge in California and they will tell you it is no walk in the park.

Having an experienced defense attorney on your side can be critical when you face serious criminal charges like a DUI.

Don’t drink and drive. But if you do, and are now facing charges, talk to an experienced attorney about your case.
