People rarely consider vandalism to be a serious criminal offense. Those people truly don’t know just how damaging vandalism is. The seriousness of a vandalism crime is linked directly to the damage it causes. This story from the LA Times is evidence of that.

Cyrus Yazdani, a 26 year old San Jose graduate was on parole for prior vandalism charges when he was arrested again this week. Police had found fresh “Buket” tags in some of Yazdani’s frequent graffiti spots including on a mural on the Hollywood Freeway, on a South LA business, and along a concrete lining of the Los Angeles River. Going to jail is no joke. There aren’t many people who want to end up behind bars on any given night, particularly if they are out with friends having a good time. Sadly, this is how many people who end up the Sacramento County drunk tank begin their night.

The drunk tank, affectionately referred to as “F tank”, is a specially designed room for the most intoxicated patrons of the Sacramento County jail. This is where you may end up when you are drunk and arrested for DUI or public intoxication.

While you may spend less than a full night in this place, you won’t likely forget your experience in the F tank. As someone who has visited clients in numerous county lock-ups, I can tell you the smell and appearance of a county drunk tank is unforgettable. [Read More...]

California is one of several states that have legalized marijuana for medical use. Last week Governor Schwarzenegger stated he thinks now is also a good time to open up the debate on legalization of marijuana. Looking at his words it is obvious he is careful not to say he supports legalization but merely that the discussion should take place.

Legislator Tom Ammiano has introduced a bill to legalize but regulate marijuana. The bill would allow for people over the age of 21 to grow, buy, sell, and possess marijuana. All of these actions are banned by Federal law but the current administration in Washington seems to take a hands-off approach in the medical marijuana debates as well.

This bill likely won’t pass yet but it could open the lines of communication on a largely taboo subject. Even the Police Chiefs Association, which opposes legalization states that the debate needs to begin. [Read More...]
