Team of Four Faces California Theft Charges
Four Newcastle residents were arrested on possession of stolen property and mail theft charges.
The investigation into this group began on July 28th when a witness reported seeing a green BMW pulling alongside Newcastle mailboxes and taking the contents. Earlier this week, that same BMW was stopped alongside I80 for a cracked windshield.
A Placer County Sherriff’s Deputy found the vehicle to contain two people and a mass of stolen credit cards, driver’s licenses, and checks. Thirty two year old Aaron Renfro and 25 year old Rebecca Carrillo were arrested and are being held without bond.
A search of their residence, however, turned up additional evidenced including garbage bags filled with credit cards, checks, and more stolen mail. Also found and arrested at the residence was 38 year old Elijah Murray and 37 year old Eziekiel Rutledge.
The reason for these two men being arrested was they were actually found wearing stolen goods from a burglary that occurred a week ago. Inside the house additional items from this burglary were found as well.
In all, the value of stolen goods in the house, from the burglary, is estimated at $15,000 according to this Sacramento Bee report.
Murray is being held on $45,000 bail while Rutledge is being held on $5,000. It seems all four are facing charges of possession of stolen property and mail theft.
Any crime is a serious matter. However, when a theft involves more than $400 it becomes very serious. Grand theft is the charge that applies when the value of stolen items is more than $400. This can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony and is punishable by up to 1 year in prison.
