Operation Cross Country Nets Sex Crime Suspects in California

November 3, 2009

Operation Cross Country began in 2003 to focus on the sex trade in our country, specifically targeted child sex trafficking. In a crackdown this month that led to almost 700 arrests across the country, several arrests were made and children were rescued in California.

According to the LA Times, 2 children were rescued in Riverside where 4 adults were arrested. In addition 2 arrests were made in Orange County, adults who are believed to be child sex customers.

Since 2003, the Operation has rescued close to 900 children in this country. The LA Times also reports that 510 pimps and madams have been convicted through this program as well.

The majority of children involved in these stings are young girls who enter into this underground world at about the age of 12, though they may be brought in at a much younger age.

The president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children estimates about 100,000 children are involved in sex trafficking in the United States. When compared with this number, the 900 rescued seems like a drop in the bucket.

In society’s eyes there is no worse crime than that which is inflicted upon a child. Unfortunately, their natural vulnerability makes them often an easy target.

For people accused of sex crimes against children, there is no greater fear than being caught. The disdain, disgust, and potential violence these suspects face are no joke. Even police, corrections officials, and judges have a difficult time dealing with those accused of child molestation.

If you are accused of a crime like this, you know and have experienced firsthand the type of hatred coming your way. However, as with any criminal charges the law dictates that you are innocent until proven guilty.
