A Lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department sent out a memo to deputies in Norwalk recently, urging them to weigh heavily the individual behind the crime and use their discretion carefully when deciding whether to make an arrest. The term “contempt of cop” is being used to describe arrests where police feel their actions are being interfered with or someone is resisting arrest. A recent study in Los Angeles County is said to indicate no racial disparity in this type of arrest, despite feelings to the contrary by community members. [Read More...]

A Petaluma man was interviewed for an in-depth look at DUI offenders in the Argus-Courier this past week. He tells that only intensive probation and treatment were able to finally crack his own DUI problems, after multiple convictions and penalties. He suggests the same is necessary for others like him.
